Methods: Twenty-eight type II diabetic and 37 non-diabetic coronary artery disease patients that had no differences in age, sex, drugs used and number of revascularized arteries were included in the study. Doppler echocardiographic examinations before and 8 weeks after operations were made, and early diastolic flow (E), atrial contraction (A), E/A ratio, decelaration and isovolumetric relaxation time, left ventricular volumes and ejection fractions were measured in sequence.
Results: Statistically significant improvement of diastolic and systolic parameters of both groups were found after coronary bypass surgery. Statistical comparison of values between groups showed statistically better recovery in diastolic functions of diabetic and in systolic functions of non-diabetic patients, respectively.
Conclusion: It has been concluded that effects of postoperatively improved diastolic left ventricular functions of type II diabetic coronary patients on late period systolic functions and prognosis must be investigated.
