A New Approach for Investigation of Left Ventricular Anatomy: Mathematical Modelling

Background: Evaluation and analysis of the geometric structure and anatomical features of the left ventricle using mathematical modelling methods have been being developed as an adjuvant method for clinical experiments.

Methods: In this study, the morphological effects of geometry and dimensions of the left ventricle were examined using of 18 adult hearts from fixed cadavers by formaldehyde who had expired due to noncardiac causes. The computerized tomographic and magnetic resonance images and also silicon molds of the cadaveric hearts included in this study were analysed and a 3-dimentional left ventricular mathematical modelling was constituted using the data analysis with implicit polinomas. The left ventricle mass-volume relations and geometry have been determining mathematically.

Results: The forth, sixth and eigth degree mathematical modellings which were obtained from algebral equations were found to be suitable for reflecting the left ventricular geometry. Whereas the tenth degree modelling was found more successful to demonsrate not only the geometrical features of the left ventricle but also the structures (papillary muscles) relating to the left ventricle.

Conclusion: The obtaining mathematical modelling instructions from this research will be based upon to determine computed data and be adapted to the corrective procedures of left ventricle pathologies and be accepted reference for reconstructing of left ventricular configuration.
