Central venous catheterization has been increasing very rapidly in recent years. Complication rate related with a short duration of catheterization is approximately 5%, but this rate can increase depending on the duration of catheterization. Embolization of catheter fragments with extensive central vein thrombosis is a rare and serious complication that has been unusual in the literature reviewed. We examined two cases with embolization who were catheterized in the right subclavian vein for dialysis and reviewed the literature for etiology and prevention, symptoms and diagnosis, surgical and percutaneus treatments of central venous catheter embolization.
