In our study, 24 rats were separated into four groups, as 6 rats in each suture material group and 7/0 suture materials (silk, polypropylene, polydiaxanone, PTFE) were passed through rat aortas perpendicular, at the infrarenal site. After 14 days rats were sacrificed and aortic segment at which suture materials were passed examined under light microscope.
In silk group, inflammatory reaction, endothelial cell proliferation and myointimal proliferation were found to be significantly higher when compared to other groups. In polydiaxanone group inflammatory reaction was foud to significantly lower when compared to other groups.
Our results which reveal least inflammatory reaction with polydiaxanon is an advantage of this suture material, in mid and late term stenosis development.
