We report the use of a modified (reservoir-added) centrifugal pump circuit and technique of inferior pulmonary vein cannulation in operations on the descending and thoracoabdominal aorta. A reservoir, and two suction lines draining into it are added to the classical atriofemoral centrifugal pump circuit as modifications. Reservoir is connected to the venous in-flow line. Arterial line is connected to the reservoir and a central vein catheter via a recirculation line and a transfusion line, respectively. This circuit makes it possible to control the proximal and distal perfusion pressures by exchanging volume only.
