The Seventh Edition of the TNM Classification of Malignant
Tumors is due to be published in early 2009. The IASLC
Lung Cancer Staging Project, which is accepted as the
primary source for revised recommendations for TNM classification,
was launched in 1998. Database of this project
includes 67,725 cases of non-small cell lung cancer, from 46
sources in 19 countries, which were treated by all modalities
of care between 1990 and 2000. In the light of data obtained
from this project, the proposals for changes to the T, N, and
M descriptors were incorporated into TNM subsets.
