Colon ischemia depending on the aortic operations for aneurysms or occlusive diseases is a major problem. IMA stump pressure is one of the indicators of colon blood flow.
We measured the IMA stump pressures of 12 patients who had IMA blood flow out of the 30 patients who would be operated for aortic occlusive disease or aortic aneurysm and calculated the stump pressure-systemic pressure index of another 4 was under the critical level mentioned in the literature. But, no evidence of colon ischemia after the operations was seen in any of these patients. As a result we concluded that, IMA perfusion pressure measurement is not a reliable method for evaluating the colon blood flow.
