Methods: We included in this study only urgent reexplorations for bleeding. Between January 2000 and January 2002 total 3622 patients, 3219 patients operated with cardiopulmoner bypass and 403 patients operated with beating heart procedure were investigated retrospectively. One hundred twenty three of them were re-explored, primary operation type and bleeding sites during reexploration were analysed.
Results: While reexploration rate was 3.39%, there was no active bleeding site among 25.2% of the patients, and harvested area of internal thoracic artery was found the most common (13.8%) bleeding site.
Conclusions: Meticulous surgery, hemostasis and ceassing of the drugs enhancing bleeding will probably reduce reexploration rate.
