Tracheobronchial foreign bodies: Analysis of 166 cases

Between 1990 and 1995, 166 patients who had applied for tracheobronchial aspiration by the foreign bodies, have retrospectively been examined at Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgery of Atatürk University Medical Faculty. 92 of the patients were male, 74 were female. The youngest patient was 4 months old, the oldest was 56 years old. At the process of taking out the materials which had been aspirated, rigid bronchoscopy under general anaesthesia has been preferred. Thoractomy was performed for six patients. The foreign bodies which have been taken out onsisted of needles (43 %), nuts (21 %) and the rest (36 neither operative complications nor mortality have seen).
