Background: We investigated platelet aggregation levels triggered by adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and collagen in patients with Buerger's disease who were not on antiplatelet or hemorheologic treatment.

Methods: We measured ADP- and collagen-induced platelet aggregation responses in 10 patients with Fontaine IIIIV Buerger's disease without a history of antiaggregant or hemorheologic therapies and in 10 male healthy individuals under the age of 50 years (control group). Measurements were made on a Chrono-log platelet aggregometer using ADP and collagen Chrono-log kits.

Results: The mean platelet aggregation responses triggered by ADP were 78.7±9.7% and 81.5±3.5% in the patient and control groups, respectively (p>0.05). Collageninduced response was 90.5±10.0% in the patient group, and %88.5±2.3% in the control group (p>0.05).

Conclusion: Our findings suggest that patients with Buerger's disease do not have a tendency to platelet aggregation.
