Lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] has an important role in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease because of its thrombogenic and atherogenic properties. Study group was consisted of 20 male patients. Plasma Lp(a), total cholesterol, trigliserid, apo A1, apo B, creatin kinase (CK), creatin kinase myocardial band (CK-MB), levels of the patients were measured before and after 1th, 2nd, 4th and 10th days of the cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The levels of Lp(a) decreased obviously at the 1st day comparing to the preoperative days. Then, low Lp(a) levels gradually reached to the preoperative levels at the 2nd, 4th and 10th days of the postoperative period. It was observed taht the other lipid parameters decreased significantly, only trigliserid levels increased obviously at the 4th postoperative day of the CPB operation.

It was concluded that the decrease in Lp(a) and lipid levels in the first 10 days of the CPB operation seems to play advantegous role for acute re-stenosis process of coronary vessels. But since plasma Lp(a) levels differs widely among the patients, it must be kept in mind taht, the patients, it must be kept in mind that, the patients with high Lp(a) levels posses high risk within the first 10 postoperative days.
