Of the patients treated surgically due to chronic pleural empyema in our clinic, 4 underwent modified Sawamura thoracoplasty betwen 1990 and 1992. Three had tuberculous empyema, and one had post-traumatic empyema.Of the patients having tuberculous empyema, two had bronchopleural fistula. In long-term follow-up ,pleural pouch became obliterated and lung became expanded in all patints.
