Carotid body tumor is a rare neoplasm deriving from the embryological neural crest. Malignity is rare although it has a slow course, for the invasion of the adjacent vascular and neural tissues. Early diagnosis and the planning of a surgical therapy is essential. Four female cases aged between 33 and 62 were analysed together with the literature review.
